A Very Brief History of CBD Oil
The story of modern CBD (cannabidiol) oil starts in the spring of 1998, when a scientist named Geoffrey Guy, MD, began studying the power of CBD oil to cure ailments without any psychoactive effects. CBD has been known for centuries to treat anxiety and even seizures. In the 1800’s Queen Victoria used CBD-rich cannabis to reduce the pain of menstrual cramps. Unfortunately, CBD had been bred almost entirely out of most strains of marijuana in favor of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the substance gets you “high” when you consume it.
CBD Today
Since 1998 and the rediscovery of CBD as a healing substance, strains of marijuana and hemp have been bred to have high CBD levels. In the United States, because hemp products are legal in all 50 states, this means that hemp derived CBD oil is available everywhere. CBD extracted from marijuana is not legal due to the slight presence of THC.
CBD Oil from Hemp
There are several different ways to take CBD, including as a tincture, in chewable snack, as an oil, and even in a vape (e-cigarette liquid). Each method has advantages of speed, pleasure, and personal preference.
The Future is Here
With the increase in the availability of CBD derived from hemp available throughout the US and much of the world, new studies are revealing that CBD has even more healing powers. Research has revealed that it can combat cancer, act as an antispasmodic, and much more. The human body has cannabinoid receptors throughout, making CBD a powerful total-body cure that we are only now beginning to discover.
